I think we can all agree when I say that nothing hits the spot quite like a toasted bagel with extra cream cheese. Which is why I was determined to find the best gluten free bagels. I have tried so many different brands and my favorite ones taste just like a regular bagel. Keep reading to find out what are the best gluten free bagel brands!
Are Bagels Gluten Free?
Unfortunately, bagels are not gluten free. Traditional bagels are made with wheat flour and contain gluten.
But, luckily there are now a ton of great gluten free bagel brands. Gluten-free bagels are made with alternative flours such as sorghum, millet, or brown rice.
Gluten Free Bagel Brands
There are lots gluten free bagel brands out there now.
- Against The Grain – frozen, come in Everything Bagel and Sesame
- Canyon Bakehouse – a variety of frozen and fresh – they make Plain, Everything, and Deli White Bagels
- O’Dough’s – Bagel Thins
- Trader Joe’s also makes GF Bagels
- Udi’s – Plain White Bagels, frozen
- 365 by Whole Foods Market – plain, fresh white bagels
Against The Grain has a link on their page so you can enter your zip code and find which of your local stores carry their bagels. I’ll post it HERE!
Canyon Bakehouse also has a store finder! That I’ll post here for you!
Look for your local Trader Joe’s here!
365 by Whole Foods Bagels should be available at your local Whole Foods! Not sure where that is? Click here!
My Favorite GF Bagel Brand
Now, out of all those gluten free bagel brands, my favorite without a doubt is the Canyon Bakehouse Gluten Free Bagels.
“A unique blend of soft, chewy texture, Canyon Bakehouse’s bagels are a well-rounded addition to their gluten-free product line. Enjoy them toasted with cream cheese or stacked with an egg. Just like all Canyon Bakehouse products, the Plain Bagels are made using 100% whole grains, no GMOs and only the best all-natural ingredients. Free from gluten, dairy, soy and nuts (peanuts and tree nuts), you can enjoy this breakfast staple without compromising on taste, texture or quality of ingredients.”
So, on their website it shows that they have Plain [frozen], Everything Bagels [frozen], and Deli White [fresh and found in the bread aisle]. Their plain bagels and everything bagels are so good, they taste just like a traditional bagel, you won’t even know they’re gluten free.
I used to also buy Canyon Bakehouse Blueberry GF Bagels and Cinnamon Raisin GF Bagels. These were my absolute favorite. I haven’t been able to find them lately and it doesn’t show them on their site any longer. So I can’t say for sure if they’re still available. If you ever happen to see them, BUY THEM! They are so delicious!
Is Cream Cheese Gluten Free?
Yes! Cream cheese is naturally gluten-free. Philadelphia Brand Cream Cheese blocks and plain whipped cream cheeses are not made with any gluten-containing ingredients and should be safe for those with celiac disease.
Most grocery stores carry several brands of cream cheese, including dairy-free and vegan cream cheese. Cream cheese is usually in the refrigerated aisles with the dairy products.
How Do I Heat These Bagels Up?
Just like a regular bagel, they’re always better toasted.
If the GF bagels you choose come frozen, I like to heat them up for about 10-15 seconds in the microwave, and then toast to your liking. But, usually once I get home, I keep my gluten free bagels in the refrigerator instead of the freezer. [Only if I plan on eating them that week, otherwise keep them frozen so they last longer.]
In this post, we went over the best gluten free bagels and my favorite gluten free bagel brands. Just because we’re GF doesn’t mean we have to go without a delicious toasted bagel and cream cheese in the morning. I hope you give these a try and love them as much as I do!
