I love peppermint bark so much! I used to always buy the Williams Sonoma Peppermint Bark, but honestly it’s kind of expensive! So when we tried making it at home we realized how good it is when it’s homemade. Plus it’s so much fun to make.
Christmas is a time where you just want to be warm and cozy inside while making Christmas treats and desserts! My sister and I always make this a few days before Christmas and give some to friends and family.
The best part? All you need is a chocolate mold and a few ingredients!
- Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Melting Wafers
- Ghirardelli White Chocolate Melting Wafers
- Peppermint Extract
- Candy Canes
Also, with this recipe there is not exact amount of ingredients you need to use. It all depends on the size of your chocolate mold you’re using, how much peppermint flavor you want, and how much crushed candy cane you like! You really can’t mess it up, which I love!
Gluten Free Peppermint Bark
Equipment
- 1 Chocolate Mold
Ingredients
- 1 Bag Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Melting Wafers [10 oz]
- 1 Bag Ghirardelli White Chocolate Melting Wafers [10 oz]
- 1-2 Candy Canes
- Peppermint Extract
Instructions
- Before I start melting the chocolate, I put the candy canes in a ziploc bag and smash the candy canes with the back of a spoon until they're in tiny pieces, set aside.1-2 Candy Canes
- Then, I start melting the dark chocolate wafers following the directions on the back of the bag. I just pour about half of the bag in a glass bowl, and start melting. The glass will be hot- be careful! [Heat wafers in microwave-safe container for 30 seconds. Stir thoroughly. If not completely melted, continue to microwave at 15 second intervals and stir until smooth.]1 Bag Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Melting Wafers
- Once the chocolate is melted, pour it into the mold- spread evenly, completely covering the bottom.
- Place in the refrigerator for a few minutes so the chocolate can begin to harden while you're preparing the white chocolate.[Be sure not to leave it in for too long, you don't want the dark chocolate to be completely hardened, so that the chocolates will fuse together and don't separate.]
- Start melting the white chocolate wafers the same way. [Heat wafers in microwave-safe container for 30 seconds. Stir thoroughly. If not completely melted, continue to microwave at 15 second intervals and stir until smooth.]1 Bag Ghirardelli White Chocolate Melting Wafers
- Take the chocolate mold out of the refrigerator.
- Once that's melted, drop a few drips of peppermint extract in with the white chocolate and stir it up. It's very strong, so you need less than you think!Peppermint Extract
- Now pour the peppermint infused white chocolate onto the dark chocolate layer. While it's still soft and warm, you want to now use the crushed candy canes and lay it on top of the white chocolate. [I usually try to lightly press it in so that it hardens in the white chocolate so the pieces won't fall off.]1-2 Candy Canes
- Place in the refrigerator for a few minutes for it to harden and then you can remove them from the mold
- Enjoy!
Chocolate Molds
One of my favorite parts about making this homemade peppermint bark is finding a Christmas themed mold to make it in! It makes the peppermint bark so seasonal and just a little more fun! I’m going to be linking a few of my favorites below!
You can see how cute it makes this GF peppermint bark when you use fun seasonal chocolate molds!
Ingredients
I always use the Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate and White Chocolate Melting Wafers. I’m including the milk chocolate option below because some people might prefer the milk chocolate over the dark. That’s the best part about this peppermint bark recipe is you can make it however you want to make it!
These melting wafers can usually be found in your local grocery store in the baking aisle if you don’t want to order them on amazon. *However* if you are making these around the Holidays these sell out quickly and can be hard to find in your grocery store if you wait to buy them too close to Christmas. So I try to stock up before they’re gone!
Peppermint Extract can usually be found where your spices are at the grocery store, or sometimes in the baking aisle [depending on how your store is set up].
Obviously, you can only find candy canes at the grocery store during the Holidays, but you can order them on Amazon whenever you’d like! But, if for some reason you can’t find candy canes, peppermint starlights work too!
So there you go! I shared with you how to make my favorite peppermint bark recipe! I also wanted to make sure I included where to get all the exact ingredients I use. Because the type of chocolate you use definitely makes a BIG difference! Now you can make your own homemade gluten free peppermint bark! Hopefully this becomes a fun little tradition like it has with my sister and I! Happy Holidays!
