Nothing says Cinco De Mayo quite like salsa and chips, and since it’s just around the corner, I thought this would be the perfect time to make my favorite gluten free mango salsa recipe. It’s sweet, spicy, and tropical, with only 8 ingredients!
Jump to RecipeMango Salsa Ingredients
My recipe has only 8 ingredients- mangos, red bell pepper, jalapeño, cilantro, red onion, lime, salt, and a tiny bit of agave.
I love this recipe, because if you prefer something sweet instead of spicy, you can add more mango and more agave and less jalapeño or vice versa.
I know that some people have an aversion to cilantro [it tastes soapy to some people.] If that happens to you, you can sub the cilantro for parsley and it’s delicious that way too! It’s very versatile! It’s gluten free and vegan too!
How to pick the perfect Mango
The key to this mango salsa, is picking the perfect mango. There are a few ways you can tell when a mango is ready. Its hardness, the color, and the scent.
Squeeze the mango- gently. A ripe mango will squeeze easily as it will become softer. Mangoes will soften as they ripen just like peaches. When it starts going from firm to soft, it is just about ripe. If it’s hard as a rock, it’s not ripe yet.
I try to get a mango with a combination of yellow, red, and green. If it’s completely green, it is definitely not ready yet.
You can also smell the mango, if it smells sweet, it’s probably ready to cut.
What do you serve Mango Salsa with?
You can definitely eat this gluten friendly mango salsa with just corn tortilla chips, it’s one of my favorite snacks. It’s also delicious on fish tacos, chicken tacos, served with grilled/blackened fish, and grilled chicken. It can be used any way you want, that’s why I love it so much.
How long does fruit salsa last?
One of my favorite parts about this homemade gluten free mango salsa is that you can make it ahead of time!
You can store the salsa in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 5 days. To be honest, I usually eat it before it gets a chance to go bad!
It will be best in the first day or two. After that, it will still be safe to eat, but it begins to break down and can become mushy.
But, use your best judgment, if after a few days in the fridge the mangos start to look slimy or the salsa starts to smell off – don’t eat it!
