Is All Potato Salad Gluten Free?
No. Although potatoes are naturally gluten free, so they are safe for people with Celiac. But lots of times the ingredients and spices that are added to potato salad contain gluten. Potatoes are rich in vitamin C, which is an antioxidant. Another major nutrient in potatoes is potassium, an electrolyte which aids in the workings of our heart, muscles, and nervous system.
I rarely buy store bought potato salad because there are so many added spices that I may end up getting accidentally glutened!
If you take the time to review ingredients before making a potato salad recipe at home, you can easily make sure yours is gluten-free. Store bought potato salad may need to be looked at with a closer eye.
But rest assured- this recipe is 100% gluten free!
Does Mayo Contain Gluten?
Yes, in most cases mayonnaise is gluten-free. Mayonnaise or “mayo” is typically made from naturally gluten-free ingredients: eggs, oil, vinegar, lemon and sometimes mustard/mustard seed or other spices.
Because this recipe uses mayonnaise, so you can use your favorite GF mayonnaise. I use Cain’s Mayonnaise in this recipe.

How Long Is Homemade Potato Salad Good For?
The safe temperature threshold for potato salad is below 40°F. At home, that means in the refrigerator. When away from home, a cooler full of ice or frozen gel packs is the only way to go. The two-hour window applies each time a container of potato salad is not chilled, not just when it’s sitting out on the table.
But this potato salad will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. I think it’s best served fresh!
