Jump to RecipeIs All Salsa Gluten Free?
In general, salsa is made from non-gluten containing ingredients. But salsa can be subject to gluten cross-contamination in processing and some minor ingredients, such as spice blends or even a splash of soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce, that can include gluten.
It’s best to to make sure the label says gluten free, but with this homemade recipe we can make sure every thing we use, is gluten friendly! Because, there’s nothing worse than being glutened!
My Favorite Gluten Free Salsa Recipe
Equipment
- 1 Large Tupperware
Ingredients
- 2 28 oz Cans of Whole Peeled Tomatoes [Muir Glen, Contadina, and Cento are Gluten Free]
- 1 Large Red Onion
- 1 Large Yellow Onion
- 1 14 or 16 oz jar of Pepperoncini [I get the mild/medium because I don't like anything too spicy]
- 1 Fresh Jalapeño Pepper
- 1 Bunch of Cilantro
- Small jar of Minced Garlic or 1 clove of fresh garlic, whichever you prefer
Instructions
- Chop all the canned tomatoes into bite size pieces, and throw all of it into the tupperware, along with the juice2 28 oz Cans of Whole Peeled Tomatoes
- Finely chop the purple and yellow onion and add in with the tomatoes1 Large Red Onion, 1 Large Yellow Onion
- Now chop the pepperoncini into small pieces, and add into the tupperware, I like to pour most of the juice from the jar into the salsa as well1 14 or 16 oz jar of Pepperoncini
- Chop the jalapeño into tiny pieces, now depending on how spicy you want it, you can add the seeds [the more jalapeño seeds you add, the spicier the salsa will be]1 Fresh Jalapeño Pepper
- Chop all the cilantro and add in, I use lots of Cilantro because I love it and think it's a big part of why this salsa is so good1 Bunch of Cilantro
- Now add the garlic, I usually just use the jar of minced garlic and add about 2 teaspoonsSmall jar of Minced Garlic or 1 clove of fresh garlic, whichever you prefer
- Mix it all together and give it a taste, sometimes I go back and add more Cilantro or Garlic if I think it needs it
- [I like to refrigerate this for about an hour and then serve because that gives it time for the flavors to really blend together]
- Enjoy!
Are Tortilla Chips Gluten Free?
Most traditional tortilla chips are made with corn, which is gluten-free. Some tortilla chips are made using wheat or other gluten-containing grains. If you’re Celiac or following a gluten-free diet for any reason, always check the product packaging for gluten-free claims, gluten-containing ingredients, and allergen listings.
Some of my favorite GF tortilla chips are Late July, Siete, and Tostitos.
How Long Does This Salsa Last?
An open jar of store-bought salsa lasts about 2–4 weeks in the fridge, but homemade salsa will stay good for about five to seven days in the refrigerator.
