If you’ve never had a goat cheese ball, this is going to be life changing. If you’re anything like me and addicted to Vanderpump Rules, then you already know about Sur’s Goat Cheese Balls. Since, I don’t live in LA and can’t just go try the famous Goat Cheese Balls from Sur that Stassi raves about I knew I had to find a way to make them at home. But if you don’t know what a goat cheese ball is – it’s basically just goat cheese rolled into a ball, covered in egg and [gluten free] Italian breadcrumbs, and fried in olive oil. It’s the perfect appetizer. I like to add mine to a salad with grapes, apples, and balsamic dressing. But I’ll get into that later!
What is goat cheese made of? Goat cheese, also known as chèvre, refers to any cheese made from goat’s milk.
Is goat cheese healthier than regular cheese? Goat cheese is made from goat milk and is healthier and better than the cheese made from cow milk. It has less lactose, lower sodium, easier to digest fats, and similar if not higher vitamin and mineral levels compared to cow cheese.
Gluten Free Goat Cheese Balls
Ingredients
- 8 oz Goat Cheese
- 1 Egg [beaten]
- 1/4 cup Corn Starch
- 1/4 cup Gluten Free Italian Breadcrumbs
- 3 tbsp Olive Oil [you can also use avocado oil]
Instructions
- Roll the goat cheese into balls. Then place them onto a plate or flat surface and place them into the freezer for 30 to 45 minutes to firm up.
- Before you take your goat cheese balls out of the freezer, get your bowls ready. You want a bowl with corn starch, a bowl for egg [beaten], and a bowl with your breadcrumbs.*You don't want to give the balls any time to thaw out, this will help them from melting and retain their shape*
- Once firm, roll the goat cheese balls in the cornstarch. Then, dip the coated goat cheese into the egg and let any excess egg drip off.
- Roll the coated goat cheese ball into the breadcrumbs and coat them thoroughly.
- Add your olive oil to a pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the goat cheese balls to the pan. Cook on each side until they are golden brown, 1 to 2 minutes on each side.
- Serve them however you choose!
- Enjoy!

What Do I Eat Goat Cheese Balls With?
Goat Cheese Balls are the perfect bite sized appetizer. You can eat them really however you’d like. Like I said, if you’re a Vanderpump Rules fan like me, you know they serve their with vegetables and a mango dipping sauce. You can also serve them with marinara sauce, which would be kind of like a mozzarella stick only with goat cheese! Delicious!
I like to eat mine in a salad! I add purple grapes, honeycrisp apples, dried cranberries, candied walnuts [double check that they’re gluten free], and a creamy balsamic salad dressing! It’s perfection!
Tips
After you roll the goat cheese into balls, you’ll want to pop them into the freezer for about 30 to 45 minutes. This will firm up the cheese so that they don’t start melting when you begin frying them in the oil and will help them retain their shape.
Once the balls have frozen, you’ll want to coat them lightly in a layer of corn starch. This will help the egg and breadcrumbs stick to the goat cheese. When you dip them into the egg, make sure to let the excess egg drip off!
So, that’s it! That’s my gluten free goat cheese balls recipe. As you can see, it’s really pretty simple. I thought it was going to be a lot more complicated than it actually is! I hope you give these a try because they’re truly life changing!
